Francisbags in Istanbul – One of our favorite cities

Istanbul is one of Francis' favorite cities, and for those who didn’t know - Francisbags is also rooted in Istanbul: our Graphic Designer lives and works from there. An absolute “must do” is of course the old town of Istanbul, where historical and cultural experiences can be found in every corner. One example is the Hagia Sophie (Aya Sofya) - an architectural marvel and the largest church that the Eastern Roman Empire has built in Istanbul. The current structure dates back to 537. Later, during its renovation in 1453, the Hagia Sophia was converted into a mosque. Today it is known as one of the most beautiful constructions in the world - and Francis confirms that. Of course there is much more to discover, such as the Topkapi Palace (Seraglio) or the "Blue Mosque" (Sultanahmet Camii). The Bosphorus also contributes to the charm of the city. A boat trip on the Bosporus is relaxing and eventful at the same time. On one side Europe, on the other side Asia: Armies, merchants and adventurers have already crossed the Bosporus. Today there are big tankers, fishermen and tourists who travel the strait. Francis resided just next to this marvelous strait: in the Shangri-La Bosphorus. There, she enjoyed good food and relaxation not far from Istanbul's dynamic lifestyle.

Speaking of dynamic lifestyle: Of course, nightlife should not be missed. Francis recommends «360istanbul», a rooftop bar with incredible views. And for all the “shoppingers” amongst us - we have a tip! In the district of Thatakale you will find everything your heart desires - and at reasonable prices. This has inspired Francis to new bag creations, and accessories for our Francisbags have been purchased.

Istanbul ist eine der Lieblingsstädte von Francis, und für die, die es nicht wussten –

Francisbags ist fest verwurzelt in Istanbul: Unser Grafikdesigner lebt und arbeitet dort. Ein absolutes Muss ist die Istanbuler Altstadt, wo geschichtliche und kulturelle Erlebnisse in jeder Ecke zu entdecken sind. Ein Beispiel ist die Hagia Sophie (Aya Sofya) – ein architektonisches Wunder und die grösste Kirche, die das Oströmische Reich in Istanbul erbaut hat. Die aktuelle Struktur stammt aus dem Jahre 537. Später, bei ihrer Renovation 1453 wurde die Hagia Sophia in eine Moschee umgebaut. Sie ist bekannt als eine der schönsten Konstruktionen der Welt – und Francis kann das nur bestätigen.

Natürlich gibt es noch einiges mehr zu entdecken, sowie beispielsweise den Topkapi Palace (Seraglio) oder die «blaue Moschee» (Sultanahmet Camii). Auch der Bosporus trägt zu dem Charme Istanbuls bei. Eine Bootsfahrt auf dem Bosporus ist entspannend und erlebnisreich zugleich. Auf der einen Seite Europa, auf der anderen Seite Asien: Armeen, Händler und Abenteurer haben ihn schon gequert – heute sind es grosse Tanker, Fischer und Touristen, die auf dem Gewässer unterwegs sind. Mit Blick auf genau dieses Gewässer war Francis untergebracht: Im Shangri-La Bosporus. Nicht weit weg von Istanbuls dynamischen Lifestyle, war hier Entspannung und gutes Essen angesagt.

Apropos dynamischer Lifestyle: Nightlife darf natürlich nicht fehlen. Francis empfiehlt das

«360istanbul», eine Rooftopbar mit unglaublicher Aussicht. Und auch für die «Shoppinger» haben wir einen Tipp: Im Distrikt Tahtakale findet man alles, was das Herz nur so begehrt. Dies hat bei Francis für Inspirationen für neue Taschenkreationen gesorgt, und edle Accessoires für unsere Francisbags wurden angeschafft.

Leider vergingen die 3 Tage wiedermal wie im Fluge in der lebendigen Stadt. Es lohnt sich einfach immer wieder, Istanbul einen Besuch abzustatten.
